Sound Therapy

Youthologie Offering Sound Therapy

Nothing rests. Everything moves. Everything vibrates. At the most fundamental level, the Universe and everything that comprises it is pure vibratory energy manifesting itself in different ways. The Universe has no “solidity”, as such. Matter is merely energy in a state of vibration. Deepak Chopra says, “We live as ripples of energy in the vast ocean of energy.”

Since everything is made of energy and vibration, everything, including the human body, has frequency. Sound therapy has been in use for millennia, and is currently being revived as a contributor to mind, body, spirit wellness. Sound therapy is the process of using music, sound, harmonics, overtones and vibration to assist healing and to support wellness. The large water content of the body makes it an excellent conductor of sound and vibration.

Many studies have demonstrated the health benefits of music, sound and vibration. Sound can lower blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate; reduce cardiac complications; increase the immune response; promote healing; and boost the body’s production of natural opiates. When integrated as part of a total approach to wellness, sound can improve health and quality of life.

Sound therapy is currently being offered at Youthologie using the Feeltone Monochord Table, a stringed instrument that is hand-crafted and engineered as a freestanding, self-supporting sound chamber. It is played in an endless loop, creating an ocean of sound, while a person lies on the resonating sound chamber. This allows sound vibration to travel through all cells of the body and has the effect of entraining brain waves into a low frequency state (typically delta waves), causing deep relaxation and an almost instantaneous meditative state. The longer it is played, the more overtones blossom, giving the person being treated a feeling of timeless spaciousness.

Youthologie is also offering a similar treatment performed for a group of people called a Sound Bath. A sound bath session typically lasts about an hour and involves the playing of various resonant musical instruments to induce a state of deep relaxation. It is an effortless form of meditation; the experience is always positive and grounding; participants often say they feel timeless, weightless and euphoric.
